A rambling granite farmhouse in a wooded Dartmoor Valley

Chagford, Devon

"Thank you so much for all your wonderful support and creativity, you really are a star."

Originally a relatively small granite farmhouse tucked away in a wooded Dartmoor valley, this house has undergone various renovations and additions over the years.

An existing quadrangle of outbuildings at the back of the main house have been converted and added into the property. It now includes an essential Utility and Boot Room area, a Gym and super large double height Family Room. The transformation allows plenty of space for the owners' four children to enjoy games and movies - a great place to share with their friends.  We laid a beautiful parquet floor and added lots of squishy and comfortable upholstery, cushions, lamps and floor rugs to add texture and relief.

At the opposite end of the house we created a cosy, but slightly more formal ‘grown-up’ Sitting Room, away from the children and noise.  A restful space in soft yellows and blues – an area to grab some peace and quiet, if ever possible.

We then re-modelled the centre of the house and opened it right up to create a wonderful second floor guest suite with large bedroom and bathroom – the sweeping swallow wallpaper makes you feel as though you are high up in the tree tops.  We also removed a small room off the main hall to really enlarge this grand entrance and sweeping staircase.  A bespoke, locally made, wool carpet was made for the stairs and corridors, linking all three floors.

The simple, but wonderful family Kitchen is the heart to this home, with the pale blue AGA warming the space – there is never a dog or a cup of tea far away.  Close to the Kitchen is the Formal Dining Room in soft aqua blues, with a round table and antique painted chairs for the perfect social environment.

A beautiful house, with a lot of history and character and now a wonderful and inviting home for this young family.
